Particleboard
Boards or panels of wood particles bound by a synthetic resin and pressed at high temperature and pressure.
Particleboard panel
Particleboard or wood panel consisting of particles bonded with a thermosetting synthetic resin and consolidated under high temperature and pressure.
Penetration
Depth reached by the preservative product in the permeable portion of the timber.
Plywood panel
Comprising several unrolled sheets, each joined perpendicularly to each other with an adhesive or glue, always in odd numbers, so that one offsets the other, providing greater stability and superior physical and mechanical properties than the original timber.
Preservative product
Chemical substance or formulation of specific composition and characteristics, which must have the following properties: high toxicity to xylophagous organisms; high penetration through the permeable woody tissues; high degree of fixation in woody tissues; high chemical stability; non-corrosive to metals; non-harmful to the physical and mechanical characteristics of wood.
Preservative treated wood
Wood that contains preservative product at a sufficient quantity so that it increases significantly the resistance of the wood to deterioration and extends its lifetime.
Preservative treatment
Technique used to apply the preservative product to wood in order to control the biodeterioration caused by xylophagous organisms.
Pressure treatment
Treatment which uses effective pressures to force the penetration of preservative into the wood.
Pretreatment
Application of preservative product on the wood surface to protect it temporarily, during the drying process, against the attack of fungi and/or insects.
Prophylactic treatment
See pretreatment.
